HRA Stream Investigation Workshop

Location: Bynum UMC Community Center (28 Charlie Fields Rd, Pittsboro, NC 27312)

The Stream Investigation Workshop presented by Haw River Assembly is geared toward formal & informal environmental educators, teachers, and individuals interested in helping educate middle & high school students about water quality and current North Carolina Curriculum environmental standards. The workshop’s goal is to provide activities and resources to introduce students to the concept of a watershed, introduce them to basic stream monitoring techniques, and ultimately instill a sense of wonder for the river in students to further their commitment to stewardship. Pulling from Haw River Assembly Citizen Science programs, this interactive workshop offers interactive and effective activities to help build stewardship amongst your students and community. The first part of the workshop will be indoors at Bynum UMC Community Center. After eating lunch indoors, participants can choose to walk or drive to the Lower Haw River Trailhead (299-137, State Rd 1757, Pittsboro, NC 27312 for the outdoor component of the workshop.

Admission: $5.00 per participant. Payment can be made through the sign-up form (https://forms.gle/1uxhPhrAbPFP955b8 ) or in cash on the day of the event.

Credits: Each person will receive a certificate for 6 hours of educational instruction for CEU credit or 6 hours of Criteria I Educator Experience for the NC EE Certification Program.

Bring: Participants must bring lunch, water, and any other personal items for being outdoors. We will be searching for macroinvertebrates. Bring shoes that can wet or waders for the outdoor portion.
