“BURNED: Protecting The Protectors”

On July 13th at Weatherspoon Art Museum, Haw River Assembly showed the film “Burned” and hosted an expert panel discussion to address the ongoing fight against PFAS.

Burned is a collaboration between Ethereal Films, the Last Call Foundation, Footpath Pictures, and producer Mark Ruffalo. The true story of how the spouse of a firefighter revealed significant exposure to forever chemicals affecting the fire community.


“NOT ON THIS LAND: The Fight Against The Atlantic Coast Pipeline”

On June 15th, Appalachian Voices and Haw River Assembly hosted a film and panel discussion at Paramount Theater in Burlington, NC. Directed by Christopher Landry, the film showcases impacted community members who helped defeat the fracked-gas Atlantic Coast Pipeline. With the MVP Southgate situation directly impacting our community and environment, this event looks to bring awareness as MVP is expected to reapply for their FERC certificate in June. 


“ANGEL OF ALABAMA”

MARCH 9, 2023

Haw River Assembly hosted a screening of “Angel of Alabama” and conducted a live panel discussion with several experts on March 9, 2023. The film features a mid-career investigator returns home in rural Alabama to support her mother’s failing health. Amidst unusually rampant disease, she becomes a caretaker for her community until an unexpected diagnosis launches her investigation to heal her county. Her years of work have led to a permanent water solution for her community.
