ATTENTION: Public Hearing for Sanford Wastewater Treatment Plant Permit

Public Hearing for Sanford’s Wastewater Treatment Plant Permit for people in Sanford, Chatham County, Fuquay Varina and Pittsboro

Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 6 p.m.

A few months ago, we asked our members to submit comments in response to a weak permit proposal for the City of Sanford’s discharge.

The permit has no numeric limits for PFAS, even after years of documented PFAS discharges at extremely concerning levels. The permit also does not have a numeric limit for 1,4-dioxane, another forever chemical, but rather sets a “reopener clause” to set a limit at a later date.

This is an extremely important chance for the public to get involved and protect our drinking water supplies. This discharge permit is only fifteen miles UPSTREAM of Sanford’s drinking water supply. This discharge of toxins threatens the water supply of Sanford customers, much of Chatham County, Fuquay Varina, and Pittsboro as the Sanfrod drinking water plant seeks to expand.
