HRA Clean-Up-a-Thon

The Haw River Clean-Up-A-Thon is our annual clean-up event that has been raising watershed-wide awareness about the impacts of our consumption habits and bringing people together at the river and local creeks! Clean-ups are a popular way to take action for the natural spaces we love the most, and what an amazing way to show off your love for the river than to start right in your community. The 35th Annual Clean-Up-A-Thon took place on March 22, 2025, this year, and we had over 346 volunteers who retrieved 312 bags of trash and 54 tires from streams and creeks in the Haw River Watershed. See our photos below.

Clean Jordan Lake also hosted its annual clean-up on March 22 and targeted the area was the shoreline along the Haw River Arm at the peninsula formed at the entry of Stinking Creek. They had 103 volunteers remove 252 bags and 32 tires. For their history, nearly 12,000 CJL volunteers since 2009 have removed about 23,000 bags or about 230 tons of trash and about 5,400 tires from the most impacted lengths of shoreline.  A very high percentage of this load comes from the Haw River Arm all the way to the East side of the B. Everett Jordan Dam.

The 36th Annual Clean-Up-A-Thon will occur on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Stay tuned for the registration form! If you want to learn more about participating or sponsoring the event, please contact events@hawriver.org.
