Nature4All Diversity Series
Nature 4 All, beginning in 2023, is equitable outdoor programming with instructors of color, designed to welcome everyone with intentional focus on building Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in participation and leadership in environmental advocacy. This year (2026), our fishing, kayaking, and birding events reached over 60 participants (50-90% BIPOC) ages 5 to 65+ across the Haw River Watershed.

Fishing Workshop
Saturday, May 16: Fishing Workshop at Bell's Chapel Fishing Pier, 9-11AM
On Saturday, May 16, participants attended a fishing workshop from 9 AM-11 AM at Bell's Chapel Fishing Pier. JT Tate and his team from Casting Your Cares Fishing led the session, teaching fishing basics and giving attendees the chance to practice their skills. Casting Your Cares Fishing is a non-profit out of Durham that aims to foster community camaraderie and alleviate tension and anxiety while learning an enjoyable hobby. The organization provided participants with fishing rods and reels and bait. Registration was $5 per person. All participants were required to be 5 years of age or older.

On April 5, 2025, Haw River Assembly partnered with JT Tate and his team from Casting Your Cares Fishing for the first-ever Nature4All fishing workshop! Casting Your Cares Fishing is a Durham non-profit aiming to foster community camaraderie and alleviate tension and anxiety while learning an enjoyable hobby. The event took place at Bell's Chapel Fishing Pier, located on Jordan Lake in Chatham County.
Kayak Workshop
Xplore Kayak and Haw River Assembly joined forces for a guided paddle at Farrington Point at Jordan Lake! Open to both new and experienced paddlers, this outing included all equipment necessary to be safe and have fun on the lake. Kayaks, paddles, and life jackets were provided. Raphael Darden of Xplore Kayak kicked things off with helpful tips and kayaking basics before leading the group in a paddle on beautiful Jordan Lake. Participants paddled together at a relaxed pace, enjoying camaraderie, scenery and time on the water.
