Join the Haw River Assembly from 4-8 pm on Saturday, May 4th for an afternoon of live music, the opening of the Saxapahaw farmers market season, a Paperhand Puppet parade, a guided river walk, canoe rides for kids, a kayak raffle, a silent auction, food trucks, and more at the Haw River Festival in Saxapahaw. Festival entry is FREE, and all donations collected during the festival support the Haw River Assembly’s work to protect the river. Each year over 1,000 people come out for this annual celebration of the river! This event kicks off the season for Saturdays in Saxapahaw, with bands and the farmers market throughout the summer.

2019 Band Lineup

Triangle Afrobeat Orchestra

brings their eclectic mix of African percussion and jazz to the stage and works to bridge communities, provoke communication and infuse empathy through music.

Honey Magpie

an indie/folk band sewing a patchwork quilt of warm and folksy three-part harmonies, complex yet catchy string parts, and sweetly layered piano riffs into a flurry of elegant sounds.

Ragweed Brass

 Jazzy down-to-earth folk music. Plays and sings old-time American music from the early twentieth century, mixing standards with country and folk tunes. The combo gives new life to historic music, and features a banjo player and a trombonist.

Around the Festival: 

4:30pm: River Walk led by Harry Phillips (at Island Park)

4-6pm: River Monitoring (follow signs to river)

4-6pm: Guided Canoe Rides for Kids 12&Under (at Island Park) *will be canceled if water level is high

6:15pm: Gather to take part in Puppet Parade (at Paperhand Studio)

Silent Auction on tables behind stage – art, event tickets, massage therapy, vacation rental, and more! Closing bids at 7:15pm.

Raffle for Perception Sound Kayak donated by Great Outdoor Provision Company – $2/ticket, for sale next to stage. No need to be prestent to win. Winner drawn at 7:30pm.

Farmers’ Market – local produce, crafts, and more – Kids Activities -Haw River Assembly Tshirts and BooksFood and Drink for Sale at Eddy Pub, Saxapahaw General Store, Cup 22, food trucks!

Haw River Festival Silent Auction Items:

You can bid on these incredible items from local artists and businesses, and all proceeds go back to the Haw River Assembly to protect the river! Silent Auction runs from 4pm-7:15pm, and you do not have to be present to pick up your item.
